Why would someone in Seoul travel to Busan for a varicose vein clinic?
There are many good vein doctors in Seoul, and the right choice depends on what you need. People who travel to LEDAS from Seoul often say they want a clinic that treats only veins, explains the ultrasound on screen, uses local anesthesia without incisions, and offers structured follow-up for years afterwards. Others have recurrent veins and want a second opinion, or simply have family in Busan.
LEDAS has focused on varicose veins for over 22 years, has performed more than 20,000 varicose vein procedures, and has been JCI accredited for four consecutive cycles. Use our guide on how to choose a vein clinic to compare options fairly, wherever you decide to go.
How do I get from Seoul to Busan by KTX?
- Book a KTX from Seoul Station or Yongsan, or an SRT from Suseo, to Busan Station . The journey is roughly 2.5 hours.
- At Busan Station, take subway Line 1 in the direction of Nopo.
- Get off at Seomyeon Station (a short ride) and leave by Exit 9 .
- Walk about 50 m to the Yeonggwang Book building, 12th floor.
Choose an aisle seat so you can stand up and stretch. Flex your ankles every half hour to keep blood moving.
Is flying from Seoul a better option?
Domestic flights from Gimpo to Busan's Gimhae Airport are short, about an hour in the air. Once you add airport check-in and the trip from Gimhae into the city (light rail to Sasang, then subway Line 2 to Seomyeon, or a taxi), total door-to-door time is often similar to the KTX. Many patients prefer the train because they can walk around on board.
Can I do it as a day trip?
The first visit
Yes, many people do. The first visit includes a consultation and a standing duplex ultrasound of about 15–20 minutes. You see the images on screen while the doctor explains them, and you leave with a clear plan and exact quote.
Treatment day
Treatment is also same-day. Under local anesthesia, EVLT closes the main leaking vein and sclerotherapy treats smaller veins. You walk afterwards and are discharged the same day. However, after treatment you will travel home sitting for several hours. Some patients prefer to stay one night in Busan and travel the next day. Ask the doctor which is better for you.
Combining visits
To save a trip, you can ask whether the ultrasound and treatment can happen on the same day. This depends on the findings and the schedule, so discuss it with staff when you book.
How should I look after my legs on the way home?
- Wear your medical compression stockings as instructed.
- Walk around the train every hour if you can.
- Drink water and avoid alcohol.
- Expect some pulling or tightness along the treated vein for 1–2 weeks. This is common.
Read aftercare instructions and the recovery timeline before you go.
Call 119 if you develop sudden breathlessness, chest pain, or a leg that becomes very swollen and painful.
How does follow-up work if I live in Seoul?
LEDAS recommends a check-up ultrasound every 1–2 years through its relapse prevention program . Many Seoul patients plan these around a weekend in Busan. Check the opening hours , as the clinic is closed on Sundays and on the 2nd Wednesday and Saturday of each month.
