Why do patients from Kazakhstan come to Korea for varicose vein treatment?
Varicose veins are a chronic circulation problem. Valves inside the leg veins stop closing properly, blood flows backwards and pools, and the veins stretch. Over time this can cause heaviness, swelling, night cramps and skin darkening. It does not go away by itself.
Patients from Kazakhstan usually look abroad for three reasons: they want a precise ultrasound map of every leaking vein, they prefer a method without incisions or general anesthesia, and they want someone to keep checking their legs for years afterwards. LEDAS is a specialist clinic built around exactly those three things. It has focused on varicose veins for over 22 years and has performed more than 20,000 varicose vein procedures.
How does the LEDAS remote consultation centre in Kazakhstan work?
LEDAS runs 12 remote consultation centres across 7 countries, and Kazakhstan is one of them. The centre is your first point of contact before you buy a ticket.
- Introduction: staff explain the LEDAS treatment system and aftercare through live communication.
- Records: they help you send existing scans, letters and photos of your legs to the LEDAS International Healthcare Center in Busan.
- Doctor contact: they connect you with the physician and the international team so your questions are answered before travel.
- Preparation: they help you plan the medical journey, including dates and documents.
You can also start without visiting the centre by sending a request through our online consultation form. A remote review is not a diagnosis. The final treatment plan is only made after a duplex ultrasound exam in Busan.
Will I be able to speak Russian at the clinic?
Yes. Russian is one of the three languages LEDAS coordinators interpret medically, alongside English and Chinese. Many patients from Kazakhstan use Russian throughout their stay. If you prefer Kazakh, ask in advance: other languages can sometimes be arranged through the coordinator or the Busan Foundation for International Cooperation. Formal medical statements are issued in Korean or English only. See interpreter and language support .
How do I travel from Kazakhstan to Busan?
Flights
Busan is served by Gimhae International Airport. Most travellers from Almaty or Astana connect through Seoul (Incheon) or another regional hub, then take a short domestic flight to Gimhae or the KTX high-speed train to Busan. Total travel time depends on your connection, so compare current schedules. LEDAS offers an airport pick-up service with an English-speaking driver.
Visa
Entry rules for citizens of Kazakhstan depend on the length and purpose of your stay and can change. Check the current requirements with the Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Korea before booking. If you need a medical visa , the coordinator can explain which clinic documents may help.
Accommodation
Treatment is outpatient, so you need a hotel. Coordinators can help you book a hotel near Seomyeon and flights via our hotel and flight booking service.
What happens on treatment day?
The LEDAS treatment system combines three methods. EVLT seals the main leaking vein from the inside with a laser fibre as thin as a hair. Duplex-guided sclerotherapy (DGS) treats hidden leaking veins between the muscles. Sclerotherapy (SCT) treats visible spider and reticular veins. Everything is done under local anesthesia, without incisions. After a period of monitoring and walking, you are discharged the same day.
Tell the doctor about any blood thinners, previous vein surgery or past blood clots before treatment.
How is follow-up handled after I return to Kazakhstan?
LEDAS treats varicose veins as a lifelong condition. Your coordinator stays in touch after you go home and helps you talk to the doctor if questions come up. The relapse prevention program recommends a check-up ultrasound every 1–2 years, or whenever you are next in Korea, to catch new leaking veins early. Read more in follow-up after you return home .
Seek emergency care wherever you are if you develop sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing blood, or one leg becomes very swollen, painful and warm. These can be signs of a blood clot.
